PostSubject: Extraterrestrial Life   Mon May 25, 2009 3:13 pm

What do you think of life outside of Earth whether it be intelligent or not, sentient or just a bundle of bacteria.

In my opinion there is almost 100% of there to be life out there, ranging from bacteria or multi-celled organism, but intelligent/sentient life is a whole different matter. Though since there are vast amounts of galaxies other than ours, and in those galaxies are millions of stars, and around those stars are usually planets orbiting around it, just like Earth is to the Sun. Using this foresight it is hard to say no to the existence of life outside of Earth, I also have a nice picture which could broaden your mind on how small we are.

There is also the Kepler mission that NASA recently launched, it is meant to detect extrasolar plants like Earth, who are just in the habitable zone of their suns, not to close and no to far.

A nice URL to information about the Kepler mission.

In my opinion, from my realistic theories, since there are countless galaxies, with countless stars in them, as well as countless planets orbiting those stars, there has to be all kinds of life out there, although most will probably be in different evolution stages, ranging from bacteria to advanced energy people or something like that. But there is no way we could contact any other planet with sustainable life for a couple of centuries.

The Kepler mission is very interesting, as it has already discovered a couple of planets.

Simply put, the universal so far as almost been proven to be, almost withotu a doubt, to be almost infinite, and it is also very possible there are other -universes- too. However, as we have see nwith paradosi's link, we're tiny, so yes, it's almost definite that there's life with intelligence equal to our own, however they likely are incredibly far away, or are having trouble noticing us.

PLUS it's possible they have a different type of intelligence than us, they may operate in a way so totally different than ourselves that they can't even understand us, or notice us, and maybe some races of life out there that are just as smart as us but don't have any interest in what's out there. It's possible that all inelligent life out there is like that, or at least all life that's near enough to us for us to contact any time soon.

Honestly, I will bet there is probably some sapient or near sapient life in nearby star systems with habitable worlds. First of all. By evolutionary standards we are literally the peak, the forefront of earth's evolutionary tech. We are still getting better, but all evolutionary paths at one point or another, in a predatory/omnivorous species produce some form of sapience. Bottlenose dolphins, bonobos, chimps. These creatures are not always predictable, not that any animal ever is, however unpredictable in respect to how non harmful things influence them. Dolphins build piles of rock and sand for no reason, and improve them. Bonobos understand the idea of rape( as bad as it is, and not to just get their genes passed on) they do it to terrorize. Hell, we had 4-5 species of sapient apes emerge at nearly the same geologic time from creatures as intelligent as a chimp.

There a small chance for planets that can support life, a smaller chance for planets to already have life on them, and a very fucking small chance that there is sentient life on those planets.

Here's an interesting story about extraterrestrial life, very short, and very interesting.

That was an entertaining read, but humans won't be fully meat for much longer. Eventually we'll have to subside technology into our bodies, or perhaps some form of advanced genetic engineering. Then we'll be robotic meat.

Perhaps then the extraterrestrial beings might consider contacting us.
